Kabale University has received a generous donation of ICT equipment from Mr. Joel Leonard, an American lawyer whose wife is a Medical Doctor supporting the Kabale University School of Medicine under the KABSOM-HVO collaboration program.
The donated equipment aims to improve internet connectivity and support teaching, learning and telemedicine at the Central Teaching Facility, which houses the University’s Medical School laboratories.
The donation, valued at UGX 48,000,000 (Forty-eight million shillings), includes:
- Three (3) Cisco Managed Switches (48-port) — to be installed at each level of the Central Teaching Facility.
- Six (6) Ubiquity Wireless Access Points — to be installed on all three levels of the Central Teaching Facility.
Mr. Joel Leonard has been a steadfast supporter of the Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM), contributing significantly to the improvement of ICT infrastructure. His past donations include:
- In 2024, he donated three (3) Cisco managed switches and three wireless access points, installed at KABSOM Hostel, KABSOM Premises at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, and the Faculty of Engineering, Technology, Applied Design, and Fine Art (FETADFA). These were valued at UGX 42,000,000 (Forty-two million shillings).
- A solar-supported power backup system to stabilize the network during National Grid fluctuations, valued at UGX 12,000,000 (Twelve million shillings).
- Fiber optic internet extension to KABSOM students’ hostels, significantly improving connectivity for medical students.
The new equipment was officially handed over by American physician doctors on behalf of Mr. Joel Leonard on Tuesday, 11th March 2025 at 10:00 AM in the University Board Room.
