Kabale University continues to make its mark on the international academic map. We are immensely proud to highlight the exceptional achievements of Dr. Sarah Nakato, Head of the Department of Mathematics, who recently represented our university and Uganda at two of the world’s most prestigious mathematics gatherings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Selected from over 2,000 international applicants, Dr. Nakato received full sponsorship from the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and its Commission for Developing Countries (CDC) to attend these landmark events from July 22nd to 30th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Her path to the United States was preceded by an intensive research visit from June 28th to July 20th at the Graz University of Technology, Austria, hosted by Prof. Sophie Frisch. This research exchange took place under the ongoing initiative, Africa-UniNet Project: Uganda-Austria Collaboration in Algebra and Geometry.

• World Meeting for Women in Mathematics (WM)² | July 22

  Dr. Nakato participated in the (WM)² gathering, delivering a poster presentation highlighting the vital contributions and emerging research of African Women in Algebra.

• International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2026) | July 23–30

  Attending the world’s largest and most prestigious mathematics conference, Dr. Nakato joined global researchers for an inspiring week that opened with the awarding of four prestigious Fields Medals and other major prizes.

• Dual Presentations | July 27

  Having had both her oral presentation and academic poster applications accepted by the panel, Dr. Nakato delivered a compelling talk alongside her academic poster presentation, sharing her mathematical findings with researchers worldwide.
