PhD Students Work in Progress Workshop

The Directorate of Graduate Training successfully hosted the PhD Students Progress Workshop on Saturday, 22nd February 2025. The workshop provided guidance to doctoral students on their research journey. The workshop was officially opened by the University Academic Registrar, who emphasized the significance of structured research and academic integrity in doctoral studies.

The sessions covered a range of topics to equip PhD candidates with the necessary skills to navigate their research journey. Prof. Sabiti Makara, Chief Graduate Training, delivered an insightful presentation on “Conceptualization of a Research Project,” helping students refine their research ideas. Prof. Musigi Ruhiiga, Deputy Chief of the Directorate of Graduate Training (DPGT), led a session on “Getting Started,” where he addressed key aspects of literature review, research questions, and hypothesis formulation.

Participants also gained practical insights into report writing and publication strategies, with Assoc. Prof. Francis A. Akena, Dean of the Faculty of Education, elaborating on thesis writing, academic publications, and research ethics, including plagiarism prevention.

The workshop further delved into data collection and analysis, with Prof. Natal Ayiga from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration guiding attendees through choosing appropriate research methods, data collection techniques, and interpretation of findings.
