Directorate of Research and Grants carries out a Two Days Information session for Internal Researchers

The Directorate of Research and Grants is conducting a training workshop on Internal Innovation Grants for researchers at Kabale University in the New Computer Laboratory from 2nd to 3rd July 2026.

The researchers are being trained on how to prepare competitive research proposals and apply for funding to support their projects. They have been informed that every project should have a clear impact that addresses societal challenges. The projects should also promote academic growth by supporting postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and early-career staff. This training is expected to equip researchers with the skills needed to successfully apply for larger research grants in the future.

During the training, researchers have been advised to carefully consider potential collaborators and work together in multidisciplinary teams. They have also been encouraged to align their research with the country’s development priorities, focus on impact-oriented research, and integrate both basic and applied research approaches.

The funding available for projects ranges from a minimum of UGX 70 million to a maximum of UGX 250 million, depending on the nature of the project and its budget. Researchers have been advised that for multi-year projects, they should prepare an overall project budget but break it down into annual budgets, since funding is provided one year at a time.

Projects must meet all eligibility requirements, including the use of multidisciplinary approaches and adherence to ethical considerations. In addition, the principal investigator must be a member of Kabale University.

During budgeting, researchers have been advised that budgets must be activity-based and well justified, with each budget item accompanied by a clear rationale. Funding covers only one year, meaning that while multi-year projects should present the total project budget, funding should be requested annually. Researchers may also include salaries for critical project staff who are not employed or paid by Kabale University.
