Kabale University hosts its latest KAB Public Lecture Series on 11th May 2026 at KABSOM Hall, bringing together scholars, students, policymakers, and virtual participants for a timely and thought-provoking discussion on international relations and global governance.
The public lecture, themed “Understanding the Evolving International Governance Norms: United States/Israel Offensive Against Iran and Its Implications for the New World Order, with Specific Reference to Africa,” explored the changing dynamics of global power relations and the implications of emerging geopolitical tensions on Africa’s diplomatic, political, and security landscape.
The lecture was delivered by Guest Speaker Prof. Gerald K. Karyeija from Uganda Management Institute, who provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving international governance framework, highlighting how contemporary global conflicts continue to redefine international alliances, influence diplomacy, and reshape the balance of power across regions.
Serving as the Main Discussant, Assoc. Prof. Katusiimeh W. Mesharch guided an engaging and insightful exchange that encouraged participants to critically reflect on Africa’s strategic position within the changing global order. Discussions focused on the role of African states in navigating emerging geopolitical tensions, safeguarding regional stability, and strengthening continental cooperation amid growing international uncertainties.
The event also attracted participants joining virtually through Zoom, broadening the conversation beyond the physical venue and enabling wider engagement on one of the most pressing global issues of the time.
Participants commended the lecture for creating an important intellectual platform that promotes critical thinking, informed dialogue, and deeper understanding of international affairs among students and academics. The session further reinforced Kabale University’s commitment to fostering academic discourse on contemporary global challenges and their implications for Africa and the wider international community.
