With Eng. A. Muhwezi, the President of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE), presiding as the Chief Guest, the event’s theme, “Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World,” took center stage.
World Engineers Day, an annual event celebrated on the 4th of March, underwent a collaborative renaming effort with UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). The aim was to spotlight the remarkable achievements of engineers worldwide and enhance public awareness of the critical role played by engineering and technology in global development.
In his keynote address, Eng. A. Muhwezi underscored the essence of sustainability, emphasizing the pivotal role of engineers in shaping a better future. With a focus on the three pillars of sustainability—Environment, Economy, and Society—Muhwezi urged participants to direct their research and innovation efforts towards addressing Uganda’s unique challenges.
“Uganda’s future hinges on the innovative solutions crafted by its engineers,” remarked Eng. A. Muhwezi, urging students to channel their expertise towards projects that offer tangible solutions within the identified areas. He emphasized the need for proactive engagement, calling upon the students to spearhead initiatives that contribute to the nation’s development agenda.
