Ki-Water Project: Stakeholder Inception Meeting

Kabale University successfully hosted the Stakeholder Inception Meeting for the Building Regional Capacities in Integrated Water Resources Management in Kigezi Highlands, Western Uganda (KI-WATER) Project.

The meeting brought together key partners, researchers, community representatives, and policymakers to discuss strategies for addressing the pressing challenges of water resource degradation in the Kigezi Highlands. This crucial ecoregion plays an important role in regulating river systems, climate, and hydrological functions, yet it faces increasing pressure from population growth and unsustainable land-use practices.

Through the KI-WATER Project, Kabale University supported by the APPEAR programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) is working to:

  • Strengthen research and teaching capacities in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
  • Generate and share open-access data on water quality and quantity for informed decision-making.
  • Engage local stakeholders, schools, and communities in raising awareness about sustainable water management.
  • Contribute to Uganda’s national policies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This inception meeting marked an important step in fostering collaboration and laying the foundation for impactful research, capacity building, and community engagement to safeguard the future of water resources in the Kigezi Highlands.
